Mission Statement
The St. Clair West Revitalization Committee has been established to formulate, steer, and implement forward- looking strategies and plans of action to regenerate a major artery in the City of Toronto and the surrounding community. Through community representation comprised of individuals, businesses, residents, and diverse interest groups the committee seeks to build on the new vision for the area, and continue to engage all levels of government and new community partnerships. Ultimately, the goal of the St. Clair West Revitalization Committee is to be the conduit for change in the qualitative and economic prospects of this vital area.
SWRC Boundaries
The defined SWRC boundaries are Glenholme Avenue to the east, the Canadian National Railway tracks to the west, Rogers Road to the north, and the Canadian Pacific Railway tracks to the south.
Mandate
The St.Clair West Revitalization Committee will have primary responsibility to guide, manage, and promote revitalization within the St. Clair West Revitalization project boundaries, and to obtain funding to assist in the implementation of SWRC activities.
Decision-Making
All community members present at SWRC monthly meetings will be eligible to vote on any issue, with the following caveats:
A person presiding at a SWRC meeting shall vote only whenever his/her vote will affect the result, i.e., to break or to cause a tie.
Non-voting members shall consist of: 1. the local Councillor or his/her designate 2. the Local Member of the Provincial Parliament or designate 3. the Local Member of the Federal Parliament or designate 4. the City of Toronto Economic Development Staff Representative (s) 5. the representative from the Joseph J. Piccininni Community Centre 6. other government or community services representatives
Regular Meetings
SWRC shall meet monthly, unless agreed otherwise.
Election of Chair and any Other Officers
The Chair shall be elected at a regular SWRC meeting for a term decided by SWRC. Should a Chair resign, a Chair can be appointed, or elected by a regular monthly SWRC meeting.
All other officers (secretary, etc.) will be determined by SWRC, as needed, and appointed, or elected by a regular monthly SWRC meeting.
Roles and Responsibilities of the Chair
The Chair presides at SWRC’s monthly meetings and encourages full participation and balanced contributions by all SWRC members. The Chair ensures effective meetings using standard meeting rules of order. The Chair also ensures proper minutes of the meetings are prepared and distributed.
Ad Hoc Committees
Ad Hoc Committees may be established by SWRC, as needed, to plan, organize and implement projects, as decided by SWRC.
General Meetings
SWRC shall convene general public meetings as needed to report on SWRC activities, encourage continuing community involvement, and to seek input on specific projects and initiatives.
